Overnight in: Bratislava
Meals included: Breakfast

DAY 2: Bratislava and Terchova
Even though Bratislava is among some of the youngest capitals in the world, its’ history goes back to medieval times. In the past, it was the coronation town of the Hapsburgs, often visited by Maria Teresa, and was an important centre of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. An outstanding feature of the city is the majestic Devin Castle above the confluence of the Danube and Morava and on the Amber Road. However, the biggest structure is Bratislava Castle, with four towers situated on a hill above the old town with stunning views over the Danube River. Next you can enjoy the Michalska Brana gate, entrance to the old, picturesque streets. You’ll be surrounded by baroque architecture, including the famous Grassalkovichov Palace, home of the President of Slovakia.

After lunch we transfer 2,5 hours to the mountain village of Terchova which is considered as the gate to the national park of Mala Fatra. Terchova is also the birth place of Slovakia’s very own Robin Hood, hero Juraj Janosik whose statue stands on a hill overlooking the village. Our hotel is located in the quiet part of the National Park, close to the village.

Overnight in: Terchova
Meals included: Breakfast

DAY 3: Orava Mountains
After breakfast we drive through the Orava Mountains to Oravsky Podzamok. The landscape here is thick forest and colourful meadows dotted with shepherds huts and picturesque wooden cottages. En route, you’ll stop in Leštiny to admire the unique wooden church (a UNESCO site). You continue on your adventure to discover the great history of Oravský Castle, where the first Dracula movie was filmed in 1922. The castle is located above the River Orava and its tower offers some spectacular views. Later in the day you return to Terchova, and together with your guide, you will have the chance to experience a relatively easy yet adventureous walk through the spectacular Janosik canyons famous for its many waterfalls and rock formations.

Overnight in: Terchova
Meals included: Breakfast

DAY 4: Liptov, the heart of Slovakia
Leaving Terchova behind us, the day´s first stop will be a UNESCO site, the unique mountain village of Vlkolinec (place of wolves). This spectacular village beautifully nestled in the national park of Velka Fatra is famous for its remarkably preserved colourful log houses. After lunch in a traditional restaurant KOLIBA where we will have the chance to try some of the local specialities, we continue to another of Slovakia´s TOP attractions, the Demanovska Liberty Cave located at the foot hills of the Low Tatras. Early in the evening we transfer (approx. 55 min) to our hotel in Tatranska Lomnica in the High Tatras, our home for the next 3 days.

Overnight in: Tatranska Lomnica
Meals included: Breakfast

DAY 5: Spissky castle and medieval Levoca
The morning is free and you have the chance to take an optional cable car to Lomnicky Peak (2634m.), which ranks to the very top and recommended experiences in Slovakia and certainly is something that you should not miss when visiting this region. Your guide will be there to assist.

After lunch, take a short transfer to the charming region of Spiš. Here you’ll find a gothic church dating back to the thirteenth century and the spectacular Spišský Castle (UNESCO). The oldest evidence of humans on the castle hill goes back 7,000 years to the gothic age. In 1936 the skeleton of a Neanderthal man was found on the neighbouring hill of Drevenik. Today you’ll learn about the amazing history of this castle, which is considered to be the biggest medieval castle complex in Central Europe. The guided tour and views from the castle over the surrounding countryside is a memorable experience. We continue to Levoča for sightseeing around this medieval town. The local guide dressed up as Levoca´s White Lady will tell you about the town´s amazing history, where you can admire perfectly preserved gothic houses, city walls and St. James parish church with the biggest wooden alter in the world.

Levoca and the nearby Marianska Hora hill are also among the most important pilgrimage sites, and not only within Slovakia. On 3 October 2005, Levoca and Marianska Hora were chosen by delegates from the European Association of Marian Pilgrimage Sites to become an association member. Mariánska Hora has thus been included among such world pilgrimage sites as Lourdes, Mariazell, Czenstochowa and Fatima.

Overnight in: Tatranska Lomnica
Meals included: Breakfast

DAY 6: Pieninsky National Park
This morning we transfer (50 min.) to Pieninsky National Park to experience two of its TOP attractions; The Carthusian monastery and traditional rafting through the Dunajec gorge.

The monastery dates back to the 14th century. Located in the wonderful natural environment of Pieniny national park under the majestic peak of Tri Koruny (Three Crowns), this is one of the most fascinating sights in Slovakia. The gothic church of St. Anton is at the heart of the monastery. One of its' most well-known dwellers is monk Cyprian, who lived there between 1756 and 1775. At that time, Cyprian was a well-educated man specialising in the fields of medicine, botany, pharmacy and alchemy, but also in mechanics and cosmology. He lived in several monasteries and very likely also in Italy, where he gained most of his botanical and herbal knowledge. According to legend, Cyprian established one of the oldest pharmacies in Central Europe here and constructed one of the first rogallo wings. Any visitor will be overwhelmed by the spiritual atmosphere of this monastery.

The Dunajec Gorge is a stunning stretch of the Dunajec river located between Poland and Slovakia. The gorge is up to 23km long, making it one of the longest gorges in Europe. The limestone mountains are typical for this area and stretch up to 500m above the river. One of the most famous summits in the gorge is the Tri Koruny (The Three Crowns) offering stunning panoramic views over the Pieniny, Beskids and the Tatra Mountains.  One of the main attractions here is traditional rafting on the Dunajec river, during which we will admire the stunning nature of the Pieniny national park. Undoubtedly the Dunajec Gorge is one of Europe´s most spectacular gorges. We then enjoy lunch in a traditional restaurant before hiring bikes and pedalling back to Cerveny Klastor (Red Monastery).

DAY 7: Bojnice and Bratislava
Today we leave the High Tatras behind us and head back to Bratislava. En route we stop in Bojnice and visit the Bojnice Castle dating back to 1113, which is considered as the most romantic castles in the country and is certainly something that you should not miss when visiting Slovakia. After lunch in a stylish restaurant below the castle we continue to Bratislava where we will spend our last night. In the evening you can go for more walks through the narrow streets of the old town, enjoy dinner during a cruise on the Danube river or just use one of the restaurants on the banks of the Danube. The choice is yours and your guide will be there to help with anything you might need.
