The story of the trip

The High Tatras are the jewel to Slovakia’s crown and the highest mountains in the country and the entire Carpathian range reaching heights of up to 2 654 m. The Carpathian mountain range stretches across the country from the west to the east, full of rich fauna and flora that can no longer be seen in Western Europe, including species such as lynx, brown bears and wolves.

In the winter season (from December to March), the Tatras provide ideal conditions for both traditional and extreme winter sports. This area is a paradise for the lovers of downhill skiing and snowboarding, which you can fully enjoy in Tatranska Lomnica, the highest ski resort in Slovakia.

You will also try one of the most popular winter sports, snowshoeing (winter hiking on snowshoes) to a remote part of the park, a professional musher will teach you all about dog sledging and you will be able to try it out on your own dog sledges. Then to relax you’ll visit a thermal water park in the Polish Tatras. An enjoyable experience will be also a winter walk along the ridge of Spisska Magura to the mountain village of Zdiar where you visit a local museum and enjoy downhill sledding.

To explore the surroundings of this remote part of the Tatras we then continue further afield heading to Biele Pleso (1613m.). Surrounded by the white peaks of the Belianske you are awarded spectacular views all around. After approximately two hours of walking we descend to the village where you visit a local museum.
